Swift Hibernian Lounge: Where We're Drinking This December
When we're looking for a place to post up in the East Village, bars are infinite. There are more than a few on every street -- yes, literally. If you want a kitchy drink, you can get it. If you want an Instagrammable cocktail, we can find you one within walking distance. It's no surprise that there's an appetite for great food and drinks in this Manhattan neighborhood, but when we're in the mood for Irish Whiskey, we head to... Swift Hibernian Lounge.
What We Drink While We're Here: Swift has an amazing and extensive whiskey list, focusing on Irish whiskey. As well as some great cocktails. However, for us, this is the best Guinness pour in NYC and you should try it with a pour of Red Breast 12 year!
Ambiance: Founded by Danny McDonald and Mike Jewell, the two wanted to open a place for simple Irish hospitality and the dying art of conversation. Named after the famous writer Irish writer Jonathan Swift, since 1995, the bar has provided an oasis of conviviality in a noncovivial world. On Tuesday nights, a seisiún, pronounced session, is Swift's main event. They allow patrons to participate in an open band format featuring traditional Irish music (think bagpipes not U2) that takes over, entertaining the crowd.
Other Cocktail Menu Highlights: The Alejandro (Union Mezcal, Green Chartreuse, Dolin Blanc, Amaro, Absinthe) can provide a punchy smokey and herbal kick to your night or try the Gerry Cinnamon (Aberlour Scotch, Old Duff Genever, Pineapple, Lime, Prosecco, Cinnamon), to combine an unusual set of ingredients into a malty, refreshing, and very tasty beverage.
Etc: We're fans of the tacos, for sure. Corned Beef & Cabbage, Black Bean & Mushroom and Pork & Jalepeno are the three menu items you can't miss. Oh, and bonus points for the kitchen, which is open until 4 a.m. for those late night (ahem, morning) eats!
